Pilgrim Women's Fellowship

ALL Women of Pilgrim Church are Welcome.

Thursday, August 15 at 6:00 pm will be Ladies Summer Game Night in the Community Center. If you are willing to host a table game, call Judi, 941-380-0877. There will be snacks, plenty of fun and friendly competition, but mostly an opportunity for the women of Pilgrim Church to fellowship together.

The next regular meeting will be TUESDAY, September 3 at 10:00 am in the Church Library. We will open the new study of They Were Christians: the inspiring faith of Christian men and women who changed the world. The author of this series is Cristobal Krusen. The first study will be the life story of Florence Nightingale. Following the meeting, we will share lunch at METRO Diner in Port Charlotte.

The October Book Club date has not been scheduled but the featured book will be: We Fed an Island: the true story of rebuilding Puerto Rico, one meal at a time. Written by Jose Andres. The book reviews disaster relief efforts after Hurricane Maria.

The Women’s Fellowship Small Group is open to all women of the Church. Please join us!

Diaconate Ministry

The Diaconate Ministry (Pilgrim Deacons) is mostly a behind the scenes ministry which  involves maintaining the Church Sanctuary, as the Altar Guild for the Church, by keeping the pews orderly, preparing the elements for and serving communion, decorating the Sanctuary for holidays, picking up the Altar flowers and delivering them to shut-ins. The Deacons also serve by visiting our Pilgrim shut-ins for a time of fellowship and prayer. This time of fellowship will prove to be a blessing as you get to know each other, talk and pray together.

The Diaconate is also responsible for  organizing the Church greeters and ushers.  We are in need of both greeters and ushers, especially at our 10:00 am Sunday services. If this is an area where you might like to serve our Pilgrim Family, please contact a member of the Diaconate or Pastor Mike. You do not have to be a member of the Diaconate to perform this service to the Church, but if you wish to join the Diaconate, you can contact a member of the Diaconate or Pastor Mike to find out more information about the duties and responsibilities of the Deacons. Membership is open to any member of Pilgrim Church who is willing to serve our Pilgrim Family.

As Deacons of Pilgrim Church, we are here to serve the congregation of Pilgrim Church and to serve God. I would like to ask any of our   Pilgrim family that might feel the call to serve both our Church and God, to consider joining our Pilgrim Deacons Committee.

Joyful Noise

Summer is coming to an end as is Summer Camp. We were blessed to serve 60 school age children this year with our camp. The children went on daily field trips, attended VBS, created fun crafts, and reduced the "summer slide" in learning thanks to daily quiet reading time. I want to thank Ms. Megan and her team of Ms. Anna, Ms. Jessica, Ms. Jania, and Ms. Whitney for all their hard work in making our Summer Camp so awesome. It is easy to see why our camp is sought after by so many families for their children.

Our regular school year will begin on August 19th with the first day of VPK. Everyone is invited to our VPK Open House on Sunday, August 18th from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. Please come by to get a glimpse of our classrooms and program.

Stephen Ministry

Lonely? Sad? Discouraged?

Are you or a friend going through a tough time—emotionally or spiritually? Struggling with a crisis in life? Or simply feeling down?

Consider letting a Stephen Minister help. A Stephen Minister is a member of our congregation who is trained to listen, care,  encourage, pray, and walk alongside you during difficult times. It’s confidential, free, and very helpful.

To learn more, talk with Pastor Mike or Stephen Leader Judy Pryer.

Search Committee

The Church Profile has been completed to the satisfaction of the Florida Conference of the United Church of Christ. The advertisement for our vacancy was posted as of July 15th, on the national UCC website! All interested parties must submit their credentials to UCC before they send them to us. Our Conference plays an essential part in the review process.

Your Search Committee is primed to review the applications. This is no small task as the packet of information we get on each applicant can have as many as 30 pages. We know your preferences based on your responses to the completed Pilgrim Membership Survey and the discussions we have had at our Town Hall Meetings.

As a reminder the Search Committee is composed of seven volunteers:

Debi Allen                 Don Anderson

Robyn Biluk              Pastor Ken Ewing

Ken Rhoe                   Jessica Warren

Susan Wright

Note: It would be inappropriate to share the names of the applicants with you, many of whom will have existing positions elsewhere in the country. Their interest must be kept confidential until a final selection is made and presented to the Congregation.

We will keep you informed about our progress on the search through the monthly newsletter and future Sunday Town Hall Meetings.

If you have any questions please stop me at services or drop me an email.

My email address is: dbadonald1@aol.com

Thank You!!
